Flamingos Golf lies in an enviable enclave between Marbella and Gibraltar with unlimited views to the sea. Not too long at around 6,000 metres the emphasis has to be on strategy. The Arroyo del Taraje gully dissects the course and water comes into play on several holes, most notably the tees shots on the 1st and 10th.
The designer Antonio Garrido also has to be congratulated for overseeing the planting of many different varieties of trees: cypresses, orange, olives and carob etc. Plans are well underway to open the second course towards the end of 2006.
The greens are generous in size, but the fairways are slender on the first half of the course, where more precision is needed than on the second half. The bunkers contain white marble chips and the fairways are sown with Bermuda grass except for certain holes that use Ray grass, while the greens and tees have Penncross.
